She was created by Freud Corp for Etoile Air, their space airline company, but during a freak accident, Carol gets lost on an alien planet and her company presumes her dead. While trying to cope, she finds out horrible secrets Freud and Etoile tried to clean up, especially when it came to their space colonization project.

Carol is an English name that means "joyful song". It comes from Caroltron 5000, the working name of Carol's main inspiration, Glaxxon 5000
If Carol will ever have a last name, it would be Samsa. Samsa comes from Samuel, which means "God has Heard". It is the name of Gregor Samsa, the main character of Franz Kafka's Metamorphasis (1915), who turns into a giant bug.
